The 1st Annual Veteran Safe Shower Connection Event
Safe Showers Serves, a program developed to provide veterans who have served in the military and families who’ve lost loved ones in the line of duty with easy-access tubs and showers, is proud to host the first annual Veteran Safe Shower Connection. This event provides a bathroom remodel, free of charge, for a veteran in need so that they can age gracefully in their own home.
Our First Recipients
Safe Showers is honored to help Willie Manuel Evans and his son, John Evans. Willie Evans is a 98-year-old veteran who served in WWII and in the Korean War where he earned a Purple Heart, and John Evans served the Marines and Navy from 1975 to 1996.
John Evans moved in with his dad recently to help him with his daily needs so that he could continue to live comfortably at home. One challenge that Willie Evans faced every day is stepping over the high tub wall of his bathtub when he wanted to shower.
A Bathroom Remodel for a Veteran in Need
Safe Showers was honored to provide a free bathroom remodel for Mr. Evans during our Veteran Safe Shower Connection event, which took place on November 11, 2019. We converted his old bathtub into a new shower system that features a low step-up entry and the only true slip-resistant floor in the industry. Mr. Evans can now step into and out of his shower much more safely, allowing him to continue living comfortably and independently in his own home.
A Company That Cares
Chris Edelen, owner of Safe Showers, comes from a military family. His dad was a career Air Force officer who flew the Hump, one of the most dangerous missions of WWII. In a recent radio interview, he describes the Veteran Safe Shower Connection event as a great way to “honor those who gave so much and continue to give so much every day” for the good of the country.
If you know of a veteran in need of a bathroom remodel that will help improve their quality of life, we encourage you to nominate them for next year’s Veteran Safe Shower Connection event. To do so, please fill out the form below.
